Stopping the Violence Counsellor

Boundary Women’s Coalition is a non-profit organization providing services throughout the Boundary area to women and children affected by violence. Boundary Women’s Coalition is seeking applications for the position of a Stopping the Violence Counsellor. 

POSITION SUMMARY

Provide group and individual counselling to those who identify as female, who are 19 years or older and have been impacted by violence or abuse in relationships, sexual assault and/or childhood abuse.

KEY DUTIES

• Provide services to the Boundary Region in a manner that reflects the needs of the women. Travel to surrounding communities required
• Ensure services will be accessible to all women regardless of race, religion, culture, sexual orientation or social/economic condition
• Use an individual and/or group approach within a feminist and trauma-informed perspective.
• Liaise with and make referrals to other local agencies
• Maintain accurate, up to date records as required
• Participate in quality assurance, support supervision/consultation, intake and staff meetings
• Perform other related duties as required, including developing group facilitation skills with other partners to support group delivery

QUALIFICATIONS

• A Bachelor’s Degree in counselling, social work, human services or related field or the equivalent of education, relevant experience and training in the domestic violence field
• At least 3 years’ relevant work experience including a demonstrated knowledge in the counselling of women who have experienced various forms of violence and abuse
• Experience in counselling within a feminist framework
• Knowledge of group process and facilitation techniques
• Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
• Efficient time, organizational and stress-management skills
• Ability to work as a team and independently
• Ability to work and network with other members of the community
• Ability to pass a criminal record check
• Valid driver’s license and well maintained vehicle
