Business Loans & Development Loan Funds

Business Loans:

Community Futures has been lending money to small businesses throughout the Boundary since 1993. Over the past 22 years we have authorized loans to over 500 businesses.

Community Futures has loans to start, buy, or expand your business. If you have a commercially viable business or project in the Boundary region, Community Futures may be able to arrange the financing you need. Starting or expanding your business requires a lot of research and planning. The people at Community Futures Boundary can provide the guidance you need.

Business Development Loans

Loans are available to a maximum of $150,000 through our regular loan process, to a maximum of $500,000 through our Community Futures syndications, and to a maximum of $10,000,000.00 with our Rural Partnership Agreement with Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC).

Funding can be obtained for start-ups, expansion, additional working capital, equipment purchases, real estate purchases and maintenance.

Business Loans - Application Process

  • Meet with our loans manager to discuss your options and begin working through the application process.
  • Our loans manager will provide assistance to you while you develop a business plan and financial projections ( Business Plan Outline), perform credit checks, and verify the information you provide. You will be advised what additional information needs to be provided. Naturally the more complex the situation, the longer this process can take.
  • Our loans manager will present your application and information to the loans committee at a monthly loans meeting. The committee will make a decision, and you will be informed of the decision after the meeting.
  • Upon your acceptance of the terms and conditions set out in the offer, we will commence preparation of the legal security documents and other loan documentation as required. This can take up to two weeks.

What We Offer:

  • Support for new or existing business
  • Competitive interest rates
  • Flexible repayment schedules
  • No penalties for early repayment.
  • Ongoing support and business counselling with our certified business counsellor.
  • Individualized consideration of all applications received.

Redress Process

  • If the applicant's proposal is rejected, and there is significant additional information provided by the applicant, then the applicant shall have the option of appealing the decision back to the Loan Committee.  If the application is subsequently rejected by this second review, the applicant shall have redress to appeal to the full Board of the Community Futures Boundary.  Further, if the applicant requests a further appeal, there is a Provincial Committee that would review the loan process.
  • Applicants have the option of re-applying for financing with a new and complete application package at any point following a rejection.  The application will be considered as a new application.
