Community Economic Development

 

Community Futures Boundary is more than the various programs which it delivers. The foundation of Community Futures Development Corporations across Western Canada is community economic development focusing on attracting new industries and investment to a community. In contrast, Community Economic Development practitioners focus on the existing community and its residents and help to work out solutions and stimulate the economy from within. It is felt that the community has to take ownership of the issues and causes for progress to occur. For this reason, Community Economic Development can be sustained as long as the community works together.

The Community Futures Boundary plays a leadership role in the communities it serves. Through a positive approach by both directors and staff of the Community Futures Boundary, many organizations as well as community projects have been started or benefited from Community Futures involvement and leadership.
