The successful applicant must:

Possess a degree in Elementary Education
A Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in Special Education (post graduate degree in Special Education preferred)
Demonstrated Special Education diagnostic/assessment training and skills, (Level B minimum, Level C preferred)
Demonstrated successful ability in designing, adapting and modifying curriculum
Have completed University level courses in:

o Students with special needs 

o Assessment/testing, theory and practice 

o Meeting diverse needs of learners – modifying and adapting curricula 

o Education of students with mental illness, behaviour disorders, motivational techniques and behaviour management 

Have a demonstrated ability to develop Behavior Support Plans for students through systematic observation and collection of behaviour data to establish baseline / progress data.
Have a working understanding and successful experience implementing the Redesigned K-9 BC curriculum
Have a demonstrated successful ability to implement B.C. Performance Standards and other curriculum- based assessments to measure student achievement and inform instructional practices in Reading, Writing, Numeracy, and Social Responsibility
Have a demonstrated successful ability to use technology as a tool to enhance and support learning
Have demonstrated ability to prepare and co-ordinate report cards with grades from numerous teachers
Have a demonstrated successful ability to utilize best practice literacy instructional strategies
Have a demonstrated successful ability to provide a learning environment where all aspects of a student’s development are enhanced and extended
Have a demonstrated successful ability to communicate with parents, students and other teaching staff
Have a demonstrated successful ability to adapt the teaching process to individual student needs and learning styles
Make a commitment to using the process of Inquiry as a professional learning practice
References must have knowledge of the applicant's professional abilities; and, preferably have supervised their work.
