About Roots & Wings: Roots and Wings is a full-service childcare center, operating in Grand Forks, BC. The center offers fulltime daycare, preschool classes, and out of school care for elementary children. We are a small operation, that holds quality care as a top priority – as such, each and every staff member is crucial for the center’s success.

About the Position:  The primary part of this position is to operate the Out of School Care (OOSC) program here at Roots and Wings – however, being a small business, you will be a part of all facets of the operation. The support staff element of this job will have you involved with both preschool and daycare, and you should also be comfortable in covering for anyone should they be away, which would include leading the daycare or preschool programs.

The OOSC program will often include field trips, so please be comfortable with walking long distances at times. Often our OOSC children will walk downtown for games or snacks. While this is a maternity leave position, there is potential for the right candidate to start earlier than the posted date, and for work to continue after the leave is covered.

Employment Dates: June 24, 2019 - August 31, 2020 (possibility of extension)

Job Summary

  • Provide quality care to all children
  • Ongoing measurement and documentation of child progress
  • Setting up a safe and inviting learning environment
  • Creative program planning with developmentally appropriate activities
  • Creating partnerships with families and the community
  • Daily cleaning and organizing as scheduled / needed
  • Picking up children from Perley Elementary (walking)


  • Must be 19 years of Age and have successfully completed the responsible adult course.
  • Early Childhood Education Diploma with valid BC ECE License to practice (preferable, but not required)


  • Experience working with children and implementing programs
  • Valid First Aid Certificate with Child safe
  • Employment in this position is contingent upon a successful Criminal Record Check
  • Work well independently and with a team
  • Must be emotionally and cognitively able to work and care for children in a child care environment
  • Must be physically able to work and care for children in a childcare environment and lift a minimum of up to 40 lbs.

Hours: 30-40 hours per week                  

Wages: Competitive w/Benefits after probation
