Tasks and Responsibilities:

The MUSEUM ASSISTANT/DOCENT will be responsible to meet and interact with visitors of many cultural backgrounds when conducting escorted tours through the many exhibits offered at the Boundary Museum and Interpretive Centre and answer the telephone as directed. As our region has a strong Doukhobor Russian influence, the student will be required to learn their History and culture; to express their learning in storytelling and responding to visitors’ questions.  The Museum has produced a Museum Reference Guide (blue binder) for this purpose and the student will familiarize themselves with the exhibits using this tool to meet the job performance goals.

As part of our Museum’s Education Program,” Cultural Craft programs and living history demonstrations such  as bread making in an outdoor bread oven, flour making at the Heritage Flour Mill Indigenous Exhibit and Interpretation of the  Sinixt people and Salmon along with blacksmith trade by early settlers.  The successful candidate will learn agriculture preparation for hammer-milled flour & participate in local events.   we offer Throughout the summer, reunions, senior’s picnic and special events take p place on the grounds of the Museum and the Docent will assist with setting up venues under the supervision of the Manager of Operations.

Housekeeping duties to be performed include vacuuming, cleaning and stocking washrooms, fertilizing the outdoor hanging baskets (nine) once a week every Friday., ensure exhibits are well maintained (dust & clean glass surfaces) and maintain the brochure rack in the hallway and replacing brochures or handouts that accompany specific exhibits. 

In addition, the student will work one (2) six- hour days/per week at the GF Doukhobor Heritage Flour Mill welcoming visitors from 10 to 4 pm.  

Application Procedure: 

Must be between the ages:  15 to 30 on the start date

Note: Priority is given to candidates who have not previously participated in a summer work experience program.

START DATE: June 11, 2019

COMPLETION DATE:  August 3rd, 2019

Wage:  $15.00 per hour
