We are currently recruiting for an Accountant for our sawmill in Grand Forks, BC. The Accountant will be an intermediate level accountant who will be responsible for assisting in various financial aspects of the operation. Note: This is a term contract position for leave coverage starting in February 2019 and concluding in February 2020.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide operational and financial support to Operations and Forestry staff.
  • Ensure timely, accurate and consistent preparation of financial statements, corporate reporting and production/financial forecasts for presentation to operations management and Head Office.
  • Preparation of weekly and monthly financial forecasts.
  • Review contractor pay statements.
  • Review biweekly payroll. 
  • Prepare general accounting entries (accruals, pre-paids, etc.).
  • Reconcile invoices and payments for residual product sales.
  • Reconcile monthly log inventory and prepare corresponding valuation. 
  • Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts and sub-ledgers.
  • Review Accounts Payable entries.
  • Assist and provide backup support to an accounting team of five.

What You Offer

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in business or accounting 
  • Preference given to those enrolled in, or having completed a recognized accounting designation program
  • Full cycle accounting experience
  • Knowledge of internal controls and their application
  • Experience in maintaining the general ledger, as well as posting and working with journal entries
  • Manufacturing and/or operations accounting experience is an asset
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Competency with accounting software systems
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent operational and managerial accounting skills
  • Strong reporting and analytical skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
  • Effective decision making and problem solving abilities
  • Team player with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and direction
  • Ability to effectively and courteously communicate information and clarify requirements
  • Ability to adapt in a constantly changing environment
